A Fort Wayne attorney, Mr. Helmke was a member of the Indiana-Purdue Foundation at Fort Wayne and the chancellor's advisory board. He also taught political science at IPFW. Mr. Helmke was prosecuting attorney of Allen County from 1962-1970 and was a member of the state senate. Mr. Helmke received the Ralph E. Broyles Medal in 1980; his father Walter Edward Helmke received it in 1975.
