Dr. Kaufmann taught in the English department from 1987 until . He received degrees from Southern Illinois University (B.A., 1979) and University of Illinois (A.M., 1981; Ph.D., 1986). He was director of liberal studies. His area of research included the works of the author John Dos Passos.
