Discovering Books

...using library catalogs, bibliographies

A quick way to narrow your search results in large multidisciplinary databases is to add some or all of these anthropology-related terms to your search strategy:

(your keywords or subject terms) and (anthrop$ or ethno$ or social or sociolog$ or behavior$ or cross cultur$ or transcultur$ or primitive or magic$ or folk$ or holistic or alternative or therap$)

This example works well in IUCAT Catalog (Indiana University's online library catalog). Remember to include the correct truncation symbol for the database you are using, whether an asterisk (*), question mark (?), dollar sign ($), etc.

For help in constructing effective Boolean search strategies, see Helmke Library's Foraging for Information Worksheet (PDF).
