Countries and their Cultures, 4 vols. (Reference GN703 .C68 2001) Specialized encyclopedia with anthropologically informed, signed articles and extensive bibliographies of books and Web sites. Articles are arranged alphabetically by country name.
Doing Business Internationally: The Resource for Business and Social Etiquette (Reference HF5389 .D64 1999) A capsule historical overview is provided for each country along with a section on business practices covering such topics as hours of business, negotiating, and entertaining and a section on social values, customs, and tips.
Dun & Bradstreet's Guide to Doing Business Around the World (Reference HF1416 .M78 2001) Provides trade information, risk takings, and political profiles for the top 40 trade partners of the U.S. A typical country capsule includes age breakdown, time (time zones and views of promptness), holidays, work week, religious/societal influences on business, cultural tips, an economic overview, current leaders and political parties, political influences on business, contacts, and passport/visa requirements.
Europa World First published in 1926, the year book is renowned for covering political and economic information in over 250 countries and territories. The online resource allows creation of comparative statistics tables that can be downloaded in tab-separated values, comma-separated values (csv) or HTML format. Resource also includes extensive list of governmental and non-governmental organizations by name and type. Entries can be e-mailed and citing information is provided.

U.S. Government ResourcesThe U.S. government publishes a wealth of information useful for developing plans to sell products in other countries. Government information ranges from analysis of current trade issues to statistics of actual sales. Many of the Web portals (see below) will guide you to government information. The sites listed here may be especially useful to D300 students.
Export-Import Bank of the United States The official export credit agency of the United States. Ex-Im Bank's mission is to assist in financing the export of U.S. goods and services to international markets.
Library of Congress The Library of Congress provides valuable background information about countries around the world.
- Country Studies provide description and analysis of the historical setting and the social, economic, political, and national security systems and institutions of countries.
- Portal to the World contains selective links providing authoritative, in-depth information about the nations and other areas of the world.
U.S. International Trade Statistics (U.S. Census Bureau) Use the Country/Product Trade Data link to find value of exports to other countries. Annual data is organized by 6-digit NAICS code and countries.
Web PortalsThe Web sites of international organizations, national governments, non-government organizations, and trade and professional associations can all be sources of valuable information. Partially funded by the U.S. Department of Education, globalEDGEtm contains more than 5,000 online resources, information on all countries, in-depth analysis of selected industries, the news on issues in international business, and extensive research and teaching resources.
