Currently, the library's public workstations are not equipped with a CD/DVD player. As a Federal Depository Library, Helmke Library is required to provide access to federal depository documents to citizens of the 3rd Congressional District. In order to provide access to CD/DVD items to Non-IPFW library users the library offers the following options:

1. Many CD/DVD items, especially government documents can be checked out. If the item is classed as non-circulating, check with the librarian liaison to see if the item can be circulated.

2. If the CD/DVD cannot leave the library, LITS will make a copy, free of charge, for the user.

3. The library's new digital microfilm machine can be used to view CD/DVD items. This equipment is open to public use.

4. The library owns a portable CD/DVD device that can be attached to any of the workstations in the reference consulting area. However, some DVDs and CDs, especially those older than 2003, may have software that is not supported by our workstations. Our LITS staff can usually load the software necessary to run the DVD or CD, but may not be able to do so on demand. In this situation, the user will be advised to make an appointment to come back to use the item (within 48 hours, under normal circumstances).

These options fulfill the demands on a Federal Depository Library to provide access to government information in CD/DVD format.
