Detailed on this page is the vast assortment of materials offered by Helmke Library with links to current serials, full text journals, and government documents as well as general library collection information.
BooksThere are over 300,000 books and bound serials in the library. Some special strengths are in the areas of

Books are shelved on the second, third, or fourth floors depending on the call number (with P shelved on the second floor, A through N shelved on the third floor, and Q through Z on the fourth floor). Reference books are shelved on the first floor. Science reference books are shelved on the fourth floor.
Magazines and JournalsThe library subscribes to more than 1500 academic journals (see Current Serials page) and provides electronic access to over 22,000 titles. Patrons may use a wealth of databases and indexes to identify articles on a topic, then use E-Journal Finder to determine whether the journal is available online or IUCAT, to determine whether IPFW has the needed title. Journals are shelved by call number on the second floor. Microflim back issues are located on the first floor, along with microform readers and printers.
Electronic Information ResourcesMore and more information is delivered electronically via the World Wide Web or the library’s CD-ROM network. The library provides access to hundreds of databases and full-text resources. Librarians have developed Web pages linking to the most authoritative Internet resources.
Government DocumentsThe library is a depository for U.S. government publications. These include reports, statistical compendia, congressional documents, laws and court decisions, maps, and hundreds of other useful information resources. Documents are listed in IUCAT and shelved on the second floor. Many are available in electronic format.
Videotapes, Music and Data CDsThe library has a fast-growing collection of digitized materials, including videotapes, CD-ROMs, DVDs, and other formats. In addition, there are over 4,000 maps and nearly 40,000 fine arts slides in the collection.
