In-Kind Gifts to the Library
IPFW's Helmke Library welcomes gifts of books and other information resources that enhance the strength of our collections and support instructional and research programs of the university. Due to critical space problems, the library requires a list or description of the proposed gift prior to acceptance and reserves the right to decline an offer of material that is already held in the collection or that does not meet collection needs.
Always welcome are current issues of popular publications such as Time or Newsweek. Also welcome are new or gently-used videos, DVD's, or music compact discs that meet the needs of the collection.
How do I benefit from donating materials to the IPFW Library?
Both state and federal tax legislation encourages charitable donations. In addition to the tax deduction you would receive at the federal level, Indiana law allows a tax credit against your adjusted gross income tax liability for contributions made to eligible colleges and universities. (See Indiana schedule CC-40 rev. for further information.)
How is my gift acknowledged?
The Library will acknowledge your gift with a letter indicating the number of paperbacks, hardbound books, or magazines/periodical issues you have donated. Internal Revenue Service regulations do not allow the library to provide an appraisal or estimate of the value of the donated material.
What happens to donated materials?
The librarians will first determine whether the Library already owns the material. If the Library does not own a title and it fits the collection policy, the Library will then add it to the collection. Gift book cataloging normally takes several weeks.
Who can I talk to for further information?
Contact Margit Codispoti, Collection Development Officer (260-481-6507) for further information about donating materials to the Library. The Library Director (260-481-6514) is available to discuss donations to the Library Endowment or gifts for the purchase of books, serials, or other materials.
