Commercial Document Suppliers 


DDS Request System

Order books, videos, journal articles, book chapters, and other material.

The purpose of this page is to provide options to users who need to obtain research materials, but do not want to use IPFW's Document Delivery Services. All of these commercial suppliers allow individuals to order items. Ordering instructions are specific to each service.

British Library Document Supply Centre (BLDSC)

The BLDSC provides a document delivery service to organizations and individuals throughout the world. The BLDSC is strong in science, technology and medicine. It also collects material in all subject areas. Almost all items in the BLDSC's collections are available for loan and most journal articles and conference papers can be copied subject to the provisions of the UK copyright legislation and the BLDSC's licence with the UK Copyright Licensing Agency. There is a variety of requesting methods: mail, fax, e-mail, via certain database hosts, on-line direct to the BLDSC's automated request processing system. Requests are normally dealt with within 24-28 hours of receipt. Copies are despatched by first class mail.

Chemical Abstracts (CAS) Document Detective Service

Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) is a not for profit organization committed to providing accurate and timely scientific and related information to its customers worldwide. CAS is the publisher of the printed Chemical Abstracts. CAS also produces a collection of chemical databases, CD-ROM products, software packages, and a variety of current awareness services. The CAS Document Detective Service (DDS) provides access to documents abstracted or cited by Chemical Abstract Service, or documents contained in any publication monitored by CAS, or U.S. Patents, 1971 to present.

CISTI Document Delivery (Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information)

The National Research Council of Canada provides worldwide scientific, technical and medical information through the Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI). CISTI maintains one of the largest collections of published information in science and technology in North America. Photocopies or loans are available from CISTI's collection of journals, books, conference proceedings and technical reports.

Canada's Information Resource Centre

Canada's Information Resource Centre provides access to Canadian government and corporate information. Canada's Information Resource Centre offers indexing on Canadian corporate filings; Canadian Corporate filing alerts; Canadian Government and Research documents; Canadian Theses; Education documents; Intellectual Property and Standards Documents; and Canadian Periodicals and Journals. All services are supported by a document ordering facility to make ordering quick and easy.

Congressional Research Service, Inc.

The Congressional Research Service (CRS) is a "think tank" that works exclusively for members and committees of the United States Congress. CRS produces a reports on a variety of issues such as abortion, civil rights, air pollution,. The Penny Hill Press offers same-day shipment of all publications of the CRS.

Elsevier ScienceDirect

ScienceDirect is the world's largest electronic collection of science, technology and medicine full text and bibliographic information. It is now also possible for guests to purchase full text journal content via Pay per View. This service allows guests to purchase access to articles directly by using a credit card. Access will be instant and available for 24 hours. The price per article for Elsevier journals is $30 (Third party journals on ScienceDirect might display different prices).

ERIC Document Reproduction Service (EDRS) On-Demand Document Ordering

EDRS, the ERIC Document Reproduction Service, is the document delivery component of the Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC). ERIC is a federally funded, nationwide information network designed to provide ready access to education literature. The ERIC database is the world's largest index to journal articles and documents in education, containing over 8000,000 citations. Approximately one-half of the entries in ther ERIC database are ERIC documents. ERIC documents include a wide variety of resources such as teaching guides, research reports, bibliographies, issue papers, instructional materials, and test and evaluation instruments. EDRS makes these non-journal resources available to the public in microfiche collections as well as individually. Approximately 95% of the documents abstracted in ERIC are available from EDRS.

Ingenta

Ingenta is an aggregator database providing access to two types of content. The fax/Ariel portion of this database (formerly CARL Uncover, Uncover Reveal) provides access to the tables of contents from more than 28,000 popular, trade, and scholarly journals published since 1988, updated daily. Search the database by publication title, by author, or by keywords in the title or abstract (if an abstract is available). Although there is no proper subject or full-text search capability, the sheer size of the database makes it a very comprehensive periodical database. IPFW faculty, staff, and students may establish a free profile to receive weekly research alerts or the tables of contents of particular periodicals by e-mail. Articles needed for rush delivery may be ordered from the fax/Ariel database using a credit card. The Online Articles portion of the Ingenta database provides subscriber-access to more than 6,000 full-text periodicals. IPFW currently subscribes to 27 full-text titles, which can be accessed by choosing the Ingenta Select interface > Browse Subscriptions.

Instant Information Systems provides fast, reliable, and flexible document delivery in the medical, pharmaceutical, and other health related fields.

ISI Document Solution (IDS)

ISI Document Solution®, a document delivery service, offers "one-stop shopping" with comprehensive coverage that includes documents from research journals, conference proceedings and papers, book chapters, technical reports, government reports, annual reports, standards, and monographs. Orders are processed for documents in the ISI collection within 24 hours of receipt, and providing delivery options that include fax (30-minute delivery upon request), courier, or traditional mail service. Eases record keeping by eliminating hidden costs: all materials have a standard processing fee, a variable copyright fee, and are copyright cleared.

Linda Hall Library

Welcome to Linda Hall, an independent research library of science, engineering, and technology. The collections are rich in scientific journals (~ 40,000 serial titles), research monographs (~ 300,000), conference and symposium proceedings, engineering standards and specifications (~ 150,000), patent specifications and trademarks, unclassified NASA, DOE, and Government Contractor reports (~ 1.5 million), and geological maps (~ 80,000). Holdings include the former library collection of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences acquired in 1947 and most of the collection from the former Engineering Societies Library transferred in 1995.

National Technical Information Service (NTIS)

NTIS is the official resource for government-sponsored U.S. and worldwide scientific, technical, engineering, and business-related information. All NTIS operating costs are paid for by the sale of its products and services. The NTIS collection of more than 2.7 million titles includes business and management studies, international market reports, materials and chemical science data, technology innovations, and training tools. NTIS acquires information form more than 200 U.S. government agencies, numerous international government departments and other international organizations, and contracts or cooperative agreements with the private sector, individuals, firsm, and other organizations.

The Technical Information Services (TIS)

The Technical Information Services (TIS) at the Purdue University Libraries provides scientific, technical, and management information to clients around the world. TIS offers two major services - document delivery from the Purdue University Libraries collection and research on a wide variety of subjects. Documents are shipped within 48 hours. Information services are provided within in one week.
