Library Services for People with Disabilities

People with disabilities will receive the same level of service as the general public. Requests for specialized services made by students with special needs based on disabilities will be redirected to Services for Students with Disabilities. People needing assistance in book retrieval should request help at the Service Desk. Course reserve materials not available on ReservesEXpress will be photocopied for students with visual and reading disabilities at no charge. Assistance with the operation of equipment (photocopiers, computers, microform reader/printers, etc.) may be obtained at the Service Desk.

Helmke Library is wheelchair accessible. Handicapped parking near the library is available in parking lot 8, and in both parking garages. Restrooms are wheelchair accessible and accessible drinking fountains are located on the first and fourth floors. The fire alarm system has both horns and strobe light signals. A Kurzweil Reader, courtesy of Services to Students with Disabilities, is located on the first floor in the Microform Reading Room. Two wheelchair-accessible computer workstations with large screens are available in the first floor Student-Access Computing Lab. One wheelchair accessible computer is available to non-students.  It is located near the Service Desk.
