Policy on Personal Copy Reserve Videorecording

The Helmke Library will follow the policy outlined below for videorecordings owned by an instructor that are placed on reserve.

  1. Only legally owned copies of videorecordings will be placed on reserve.
  2. Videorecordings that are not clearly supplied by a video distributor will be subject to inquiries by the library staff.
  3. If a videocassette appears to be a duplication, the instructor placing the item on reserve must certify that he or she is the copyright holder or that he or she has been granted permission from the copyright holder to make a duplicate (see form). In the case of commercially-available programs (for example, a feature film), this permission from the copyright holder must be in writing.
  4. Programs videotaped off-air or off-satellite may be placed on reserve only for the 45 day review period. After that time, the instructor must purchase a license or a commercially-recorded copy of the program for reserve.

The Library reserves the right to refuse for reserve any program for which the legality of the recording is in question.
