Library Instruction Session Checklist 


To schedule an in-class library instruction session for your upper-level course, contact the specialist subject librarian who is liaison to your department. Please allow plenty of advance notice so that we can work with you to develop an effective presentation, course guide, and assessment plan.

A copy of the library assignment or research project, along with its due date and any special requirements, e.g., a special focus on books, magazines, or peer-reviewed scholarly journals, a requirement concerning the recency of sources, a special teamwork design, etc.

2.

Your syllabus or a preliminary outline of course content.

3.

A selection of a small number of library resources and tools (such as electronic databases, printed indexes, key journals, major reference works, etc.) that should be presented to help your students complete their assignment. Alternatively, you may want to make this selection in consultation with your librarian.

4.

Your evaluation of how the assignment introduces information literacy skills to your students and takes advantage of the rich array of resources available via Helmke Library.

5.

Your suggestion for evaluating the effectiveness of the session and impact on student learning, either using evaluation forms provided by the library, using evaluation forms that you provide, or using another evaluation method (please explain).

6.

Your preference for when evaluation should take place, either immediately following students' completion of the library assignment or research project, or at the end of the semester, as part of the overall course evaluation.
