Finding Economic Indicators
Recommended Resource for this ClassThe following database compiles extensive statistics on worldwide economic indicators, current, historical and projected. Create customized tables and download them as MS Excel spreadsheet. Please look at the short GMID tutorial created especially for ECON 430 students to aid them in retrieving economic indicators from the Global Market Information Database (GMID).
Web Sites for Economic IndicatorsThe following sites were culled from the list of links provided in your textbook. These agencies provide accurate, reliable information and are relatively easy to navigate.
Economic Report of the President Annual report that gives an overview the nation's economic progress. Provides international statistics as well.
U.S. Census Bureau: Foreign Trade Statistics Recent and historical data on trade balances as well as U.S. imports and exports with individual countries. Country/Product Trade Data includes foreign trade statistics by various commodity classification and country breakdowns. State Export Data offers commodity and country detail for each state.
Bureau of Economic Analysis Reliable and consistent measures of industry, regional, national, and international economic activity. BEA prepares and presents information on economic growth, regional economic development, interindustry relationships, and the U.S.'s position in the world economy.
Federal Reserve Bank of New York: Foreign Exchange Rates The Federal Reserve Bank of New York documents and reports current and historical foreign exchange-related information on behalf of the Federal Reserve System and the U.S. Treasury.
Bureau of Labor Statistics: Foreign Labor Statistics International comparisons of hourly compensation costs; productivity and unit labor costs; labor force, employment and unemployment rates; and consumer prices. The comparisons relate primarily to the major industrial countries, but other countries are included in certain measures.
United Nations Statistical Division Collects and disseminates statistical data on world-wide economic and social classifications, environmental accounting, industry, national accounts, and trade.
