Citing sources simplified! - 2006-04-15

Using a database to find articles? Automatically generate citations in MLA or APA format for a works-cited list or bibliography by following these four simple steps:

  1. As you search for articles in a database, select the articles you want by adding them to a folder or marking a check box.
  2. When you have collected all your articles, go to the folder view or the marked list and choose the print option.
  3. Select the format (such as MLA, APA, or Turabian) that you want to use and print your citations.
  4. Check your results for inaccuracies or poor formatting. Although convenient, these automatically generated lists are not always error free.
These are the basic steps. For more information, read the screens as you work through the process. Or contact a Helmke Library subject librarian or Writing Center consultant. Remember, your instructor has final say on the format you use in your paper, so it is your responsibility to make any changes that might be needed. This tip works with all EBSCOhost, ProQuest, and CSA databases.

IPFW is currently developing a strategic plan to help guide its use and implementation of technology used in support of teaching and learning, often referred to as "instructional technology." Your input is essential to shaping this plan, plus when you complete the survey you will be entered into a drawing for a chance at winning one of three available 512 MB flashdrives.

You will find the Student Technology Survey when you login to my.ipfw.edu. It is the last of the surveys listed in the lower right box. Act now, the survey will only be available until March 31st!
